The Vigo County Education Foundation (VCEF) will host their 23rd Annual Fore the Kids Golf Scramble Friday, July 31 at Rea Park Golf Course located at 3500 S. 7th Street in Terre Haute. The scramble begins at 1 PM with lunch being served to all participants at noon. Before the scramble a putting contest in memory of long time VCEF Board Member, Charles E. Uhl, will be held on the putting green beginning at 11:45 AM. Proceeds raised from this new event will be used to support a mini grant started in Mr. Uhl’s name. Mini grants are given to teachers each year for projects that enrich student’s education. Mr. Uhl, a VCEF Board Member for over twenty years, was honored by the VCEF at their March 2015 Board meeting with the passing of a Memorial Resolution which stated that Mr. Uhl “energetically served on the Special Events, Human Resources and Fund Development Committees, and was instrumental to the success of the Fore the Kids Golf Scramble”. Mr. Uhl passed away earlier this year.

This year’s tournament is chaired by Dave Piker, who serves on the Foundation Board as chair of the Fund Development Committee and Co Chair on the Special Events Committee. The putting contest will be coordinated by VCEF Board member, Lori Danielson. 36 teams comprised of business people and community members will golf alongside teachers, principals and administrators from the Vigo County School Corporation. Jane Nichols, VCEF Executive Director, says, “this golf scramble is one of the major fundraisers for the Education Foundation. We know that Charles would be pleased that any funds raised from this additional contest will be able to help more students succeed.”

Additional proceeds from this tournament will benefit VCEF programs such as classroom grants, academic competition funds, attendance programs and recognition of the excellent teachers in Vigo County.
